Shrine for Michael Derricote (one love li'l bro) 3500 block of Stanton Road SE DC

This large shrine had many people in the vicinity when I documented it.

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 3500 block of Stanton Road SE, Washington DC, on Friday, April 14, 2017. At approximately 8:05 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to a report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival on the scene, officers located two adult males. Each was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS personnel were called to the scene and transported both victims to local hospitals. The first victim was admitted with life threatening injuries. The second victim was admitted in critical but stable condition. On Sunday, April 30, 2017, the first victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Michael Derricote, 26, of Upper Marlboro, MD.

RIP Antwan Jones | 2100 block of Alabama Avenue SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch seek the public's assistance in identifying and locating a person of interest in a fatal shooting which occurred in the 2100 block of Alabama Avenue SE, Washington DC, on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. At approximately 3:45 pm, officers from the Seventh District responded to the 2100 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. While responding, members of the Seventh District located a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Stanton Road and Alabama Avenue, Southeast. Members discovered that the driver and passenger, of one of the involved vehicles, were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS transported both adult male victims to an area hospital, where one of the victims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The other victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The decedent was identified as Antwan Jones, 31, of Arlington, VA.

Shrine Tree / for Veezy and crew / 1400 block of Howard Road SE DC

A 'shrine tree'  to Veezy and several other people slain in the Manor neighborhood of Old Barry Farm. This ongoing memorial is in the 1400 block of Howard Road SE, Washington DC.
Pictured at the site Jayon, also know as J-man, who told us that Veezy was his godfather.

I found this tree shrine to multiple homicide victims very touching and quite unusual.

May the wars cease, and peace be upon the land and in our hearts.

RIP Devon and RIP Lil Len / 2600 block Bowen Rd SE DC

Two shrines in cement to Davon and to Len, who lost their lives in the Manor neighborhood of Old Barry Farm, in Southest DC. The area is called "Da Manor," or sometimes Oxford Manor.

RIP Orlando Donald Silver, III / shrine in the 1300 block of Howard Road SE DC

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced a second arrest has been made in the fatal shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of Howard Road SE, Washington DC, on Sunday, November 27, 2016. At approximately 4:12 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to a call for a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Orlando Donald Silver, III, 37, of Washington, DC.

Pictured  at the shrine is Jayon, also know as J-man, Orlando Donald Silver, III's cousin. The neighborhood is called "Da Manor," or sometimes Oxford Manor. Jayon said his cousin was a good person, and visits the shrine often.

Shrine in the unit block of M Street NE DC (Jamar Morris)

I found this shrine in the unit block of M Street NE, Washington DC. I believe it may be in memory of Jamar Harris, who was shot to death nearby a little over a year earlier.

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the unit block of M Street NW, Washington DC.
On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at approximately 8:39 pm members of the First District responded to a call for the sounds of gunshots.  Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment where all lifesaving efforts failed. The decedent has been identified as Jamar Morris, 28, of Northwest, DC.

The guitar and snare drum are unusual representations.

Memorial for "Lil Chic". Dennis Taylor | 2200 block of Columbia Place, Landover MD

From a Prince Georges Police report: The Homicide Unit is actively investigating the fatal shooting of a teenager Saturday night in Landover, Maryland. The victim is Dennis Taylor, 15, of Columbia Place in Landover. Officers were called to the 2200 block of Columbia Place at 9:40 pm on March 25th 2017, for a shooting. Taylor was found outside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to reports by the Washington Post and Channel 50 TV, Mr. Taylor, whose nickname was "Li'l Chic," was shot very near his home. Heroic CPR efforts by a neighbor, Ms. Karen Forges, who is a nurse, and the work of emergency paramedics, were unsuccessful in reviving him from his wounds.

His friends and family held a large vigil in his honor and memory, and to comfort themselves at his tragic end.

May they, and the whole community have peace, and may justice be served.

Walter Mack Clark, slain in the 700 block of 21st Street NE, DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred in the 700 block of 21st Street NE, Washington DC, on Friday, February 17, 2017. At approximately 12:53 pm, officers responded to the listed location for an ‘Investigate the Trouble’ call. Upon arrival, members located an adult male inside of a residence. The male was unconscious and appeared to have sustained trauma to his body. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the body and the manner of death to be Homicide. The decedent has been identified as Walter Mack Clark, 63, of Southeast, DC. On Friday, February 17, 2017, detectives from the Homicide Branch arrested Thomasine Bennett, 67, of Northeast, DC. She was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.

From a Prince Georges County Police report: The Homicide Unit arrested a suspect in connection with a recent homicide in District Heights. The suspect is Sedrick Stokes, 27, of Temple Hills. He’s charged with the fatal shooting of Nathan Slye Jr., 46, of Suitland. On March 3, 2017, at about 12:25 pm, officers were called to the 3000 block of Great Oak Drive, District Heights, Maryland, for the report of a shooting. Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later. Preliminarily, detectives believe the motive is robbery. The suspect and victim were acquaintances. Stokes is charged with first and second degree murder.

This material was about a block away from the site indicated on the police report.

At approximately 12:30 am, officers from the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Maurice Nathaniel Jackson, 32, of Southeast, DC.

RIP Eric Linnair Wright. 900 block of 12th Street NE, DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch seek the public's assistance in identifying and locating two persons of interest in a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, February 17, 2017, in the 900 block of 12th Street NE, Washington DC. At approximately 9:21 pm, members of the First District responded to the location for the report of sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an adult male unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim, identified as Eric Linnair Wright, 53, to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 2700 block of Langston Place SE, Washington DC, on Saturday, March 4, 2017. At approximately 1:11 am, officers responded to the listed location for a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim, identified as Delonta Alexander, 34, to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

This memorial is adjacent to the one for Adam Edwin Barker, slain in the same block one year ago.

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 200 block of 51st Street NE, Washington DC, on Sunday, January 29, 2017. At approximately 7:30 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Wilson Agbebaku, 34, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital where all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.

Memorial to Vivian "Ms. Viv" Marrow | 2400 block of Elvans Road SE DC

This memorial to the life of Vivian "Ms. Viv" Marrow is at the entrance of the apartment complex she lived in, in Southeast Washington DC. May her memory be a blessing.

From an NBC-TV news report: A 68-year-old woman sitting in a wheelchair died Monday after she was caught in gunfire in her southeast DC neighborhood, witnesses and DC police said. Vivian Marrow was shot about 10:20 a.m. January 16, 2017 in the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE, Washington DC, near Suitland Parkway, as she made her daily trip to a neighborhood market. The mother of three and grandmother of 11 was rushed to a hospital, where she died. Police initially believed Marrow was caught in crossfire during a gun battle, but interim Police Chief Peter Newsham said they now believe there was one shooter. "A grown man apparently had some kind of beef or dispute with someone else felt it was appropriate to fire multiple shots in this neighborhood." Friends and family wept along the street following Marrow's death. "It's really messed up," her son William Marrow said. "I don't know, really, a loss for words, because my mom was a wonderful lady... and she looked out for all my family and cousins." "It hurts us because this is our aunt, this is our last aunt, and we don't have nobody now that we can go to," her niece Adrienne Nelson said. "It hurts everybody in the family." The victim's son spoke about ongoing violence in the neighborhood. “I don't get how the young boys get involved in this war, or whatever they call it, and kill somebody innocent like her," William Marrow said. Witnesses said they heard at least a dozen shots. A man in his 20's also was shot. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. His role in the shooting is unclear. Police initially said they were seeking a black man who was armed with a gun and had been wearing a silver jacket, black sunglasses and a black face mask. No one has been arrested.

Marrow often used an electric wheelchair to get around her longtime neighborhood after she was hit by a car in the 1980s. She was a fixture in the neighborhood, especially among children. "She gave out candy to the kids, soda to the kids, ice cream to the kids," Nelson said. "She was a good person. Anything she had, she'd give it to the kids." DC Mayor Muriel Bowser issued a statement "There is no excuse for this type of violence... Because someone engaged in reckless gunfire in broad daylight while others were outside trying to live their lives, we now have another family dealing with tragedy and another community rattled by the loss of a beloved neighbor." ANC Commissioner Mikelle Bassett called for action. "We all need to come together to make something happen because this is unacceptable... This is an ongoing situation that needs to be stopped."Newsham said at the crime scene as the investigation began that officers had made progress on stopping violence in the area. "We've made a lot of inroads into the crime up in this particular area. There's still some bad actors up here." William Marrow called for the killer to surrender. “Sitting around with the guilt that you did something like that for a period, then eventually you’re going to realize that you did a whole lot to a whole lot of people and someone’s going to say something, so you might as well turn yourself in.” "This violence must stop, and the person or people responsible for killing Vivian Marrow must be brought to justice," Bowser said. Vivian Marrow's family created a GoFundMe page to help fund her funeral.

From the DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE, Washington DC, on Monday, January 16, 2017. At approximately 10:16 am, members of the Seventh District were flagged down in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult female and an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to local hospitals where the adult female victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Vivian Marrow, 68, of Southeast, DC. The adult male was admitted in stable condition.

Homicide site: Willie Starkey, 1600 block of Benning Road NE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch seek the public's assistance in identifying and locating a person of interest in a fatal shooting that occurred in the 1600 block of Benning Road NE, Washington DC, on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. At approximately 2:40 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Willie Starkey, 35, of Northeast, DC.

Kenneth Edward Morris, Jr, homicide by vehicle. Memorial in the 4100 block of East Capitol Street SE DC

This large memorial to Mr. Kenneth Edward Morris Jr., is along a well-traveled area of East Capitol Street SE, Washington DC. May he and his family know peace.

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Friday, December 23, 2016, at approximately 7:20 pm. Members of the First District observed a 2008 Lexus IS 250 in the First District area, that was stolen in an Armed Robbery that occurred on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in the 1400 block of A Street SE, Washington DC (CCN: 16-215-415). The officers activated their emergency equipment and followed the vehicle into the 4100 block of East Capitol Street SE. The stolen Lexus was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on East Capitol Street SE, when it struck the rear of a 2006 Nissan Altima, that was also traveling east bound on East Capitol Street SE.  The impact caused the Nissan to spin and strike a tree and continued eastbound until it struck a Honda Fit. The impact caused the Honda to strike a Ford Expedition. The occupants of the Lexus fled on foot towards 45th Street and Benning Road NE. A foot pursuit ensued and officers apprehended the driver of the stolen Lexus. The two other suspects made good their escape.

The driver of the Nissan Altima was transported with life threatening injuries to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.  The decedent has been identified as Kenneth Edward Morris, Jr., 31, of Southeast DC. The driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the Ford did not require medical treatment at the scene.
The driver of the stolen Lexus, David Mclane, 17, of Southeast DC, was arrested and charged as an adult with Murder Two.
