Alante Moore memorial | 1500 block of 19th Street SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, June 19, 2020, in the 1500 block of 19th Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 8:12 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. A short time later, a second adult male walked into a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as Alante Moore, 28, of Southwest DC.   

I spoke to a woman at this shrine. Mr. Moore was shot in a drive-by, and lived in an apartment building near the memorial. He had a baby on the way - his girlfriend is pregnant with his child.

There is another older shrine still standing in this block, and there are two more just around the corner.

Briana Green shrine plus | 1800 block of Q Street SE DC.

From a Prince Georges County Police report: Homicide Unit detectives charged a suspect in connection with a domestic-related homicide in the Town of Fairmount Heights on Tuesday. The suspect is Charles Kelly, Jr., 43, of Suitland, Maryland. He is charged with fatally shooting Briana Green, 20, of Suitland.

On October 15th, 2019, at approximately 8:15 pm, officers with the Fairmount Heights, Maryland Police Department responded to the 1000 block of 56th Avenue for a shooting. They discovered Green inside of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene. The preliminary investigation reveals the motive for this fatal shooting is domestic-related. Kelly and the victim were in a relationship. Kelly was charged with first and second degree murder and additional charges. 

This shrine is in the 1800 block of Q Street SE, Washington, DC. There is a shrine to another slain person on view on the same telephone pole, but I could not learn who it is for.

May both their loved ones be spared any further grief.









Street memorial for Christopher Beckwith, Jr. and Willie Leon Brown, Jr. | 1400 block of Fairmont Street NW DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, May 25, 2020, in the 1400 block of Fairmont Street NW, Washington DC. At approximately 6:21 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported one of the victims to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The second victim was also transported to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition. The decedent was identified as Christopher Beckwith, Jr., 22, of Northwest DC. On Saturday, May 30, 2020, the second victim succumbed to his injuries and has been identified as Willie Leon Brown, Jr., 19, of Northwest DC.

Lagioria Brinkley's memorial | 1900 block of 16th Street SE Dc

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, March 20, 2020, in the 1900 block of 16th Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 9:54 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location after hearing the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as Lagioria Brinkley, 36, of Southeast DC.

From DC Witness:  On Mar. 26, 2020, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested a 19-year-old man in connection to a homicide that occurred in the Fairlawn area of Washington, DC.
According to a press release, Mequan Carthens a resident of Southeast DC was charged, with first-degree murder while armed for allegedly shooting Lagioria Brinkley, 36, on the 1900 block of 16th Street, SE on Mar. 20, 2020.

I listened at length to a number of people on this busy block in the heart of the old section of Anacostia about the troubles there, and in honor of this woman's life.






Police tape for Larkia Izlar and Timothy Hinton | 1400 block of Kenilworth Avenue NE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2020, in the 1400 block of Kenilworth Avenue NE, Washington DC. At approximately 2:20 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim and an adult female victim, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined both victims displayed no signs consistent with life. The decedents have been identified as Larkia Izlar, 23, of Southeast DC, and Timothy Hinton, 28, of Suitland, MD. 

A woman I spoke with at this site said they "found the young man and the young woman dead in the car just across the street." She also expressed how sad the violence is.

Site of the murder of Marquis Harrod | 1300 block of Brentwood Road NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2020, in the 1300 block of Brentwood Road NE, Washington DC. At approximately 4:50 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as Marquis Harrod, 18, of Southeast DC.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2020, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Micah Bidgell, 24, of Northeast. DC. He was charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed. 




In honor of Ronald Collins | 5100 block of A Street SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced an arrest has been made in reference to a homicide that occurred on Monday, June 1, 2020, in the 5100 block of A Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 5:26 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent stab wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as Ronald Collins, 56, of Southeast DC. On Monday, June 1, 2020, Daniel Gayden, 54, of Capitol Heights, MD, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed. The detectives’ investigation revealed that this offense was a result of a dispute amongst known parties.  

At this memorial to Mr. Collins, I spoke to a young man who knew the victim, and we exchanged respect and hopes for peace.





Memorial for Tyrell Smith | 3000 block of 30th Street SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, May 29, 2020, in the 3000 block of 30th Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 6:23 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location after hearing the sounds of gunshots. Officers canvased the area and located an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Tyrell Smith, 19, of Southeast DC.  

At this street memorial site, I spoke with two women who are trying to clean up the neighborhood physically & otherwise. Both had lost sons, numerous family members and friends to violence. They thanked me for my work, and I thanked them for what they do for their community.

Street memorial to an unknown person | 4300 block Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE DC

I observed and documented this small street shrine, erected to an unknown person. It is in the 4300 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE, Washington, DC

I could find nothing in news reports or police sites. A twitter post from May 5, 2020 stated:
"CRITICAL SHOOTING/ PROBABLE HOMICIDE--- 4300 blk Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE-DC in the Upper Central NE area. 30yr-old man shot in head; last reported in cardiac arrest. Police working on suspect info now. "

 I could find no further information about its origin.
