Street memorial to Matthew Shevlin | 400 block of M Street NW DC

From a DC police report: The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating a person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Matthew Shevlin, 37. On Friday, January 22, 2016, at approximately 9:52 am, members of the Third District received a call an assault in the 400 block of M Street NW, Washington DC. Upon arrival, they located Matthew Shevlin suffering from a gunshot wound.  D.C. Fire and Emergency Services transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

There has been snow and very cold weather in our area of late. This memorial to Mr. Shevlin appears to have been larger, and was likely damaged by the elements.







Markers at 1900 Block 18th St SE DC to Maurico Walker

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in the 1900 Block of 18th Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 4:00 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to a call for a shooting.

Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound.  D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim, identified as Maurico Walker, 23, to a local hospital for treatment, where all lifesaving efforts failed.

The slaying occurred immediately behind the Anacostia Community Library, a block off Good Hope Road.

Memorial to Peter John, 53rd Street and Clay Terrace NE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, February 1, 2016, in the area of 53rd Street and Clay Terrace NE, Washington DC. At approximately 2:05 am, an officer attempted to stop an individual, which was followed by a brief foot pursuit and struggle. During this struggle, the suspect failed to comply with the officer’s commands and produced a firearm. The officer then discharged his service weapon. The suspect’s weapon was recovered on the scene, which was later determined to be a BB gun.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced.

DCist has identified the victim as Peter John, 36.

Homicide marked | Phillip Christopher Yorke - 1900 block of Rochelle Avenue, District Heights, Maryland,

From a Prince George’s County Police report: The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a homicide in District Heights. The victim is Phillip Christopher Yorke, 38. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. On February 15, 2016, at around 4:45 pm, patrol officers were called to the 1900 block of Rochelle Avenue in District Heights, Maryland, for the report of a shooting. Officers found the victim inside of an apartment building suffering from a gunshot wound. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Police tape marking the slaying of Roger Lewis Haggins: 2500 block Pomeroy Rd SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road SE, Washington DC. On Friday, January 8, 2016, at approximately 11:32 pm, members of the Seventh District located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound while responding to a call in the block. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. On January 9, 2016, the victim, identified as Roger Lewis Haggins, 30, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced.

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Anacostia Road, SE, Washington DC. On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at approximately 6:18 pm., members of the Sixth District received a call for a man down in the area. Upon arrival, members located an adult male identified as Timon M. Jones, 23, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, lying on the ground. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and found no signs of life.
