For Pamela Thomas | memorial in the 600 block of Division Avenue NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in reference to a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, in the 500 block of Division Avenue NE, Washington DC. At approximately 3:06 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location after hearing the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, the members located an adult female victim, inside a vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital, where despite all life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 54 year-old Pamela Thomas, of Northeast DC. 

According to an article in the Washington Post, Ms. Thomas was killed by a stray bullet while riding in the back seat of her sister's car on the way to a birthday party. They were caught in a crossfire of a gun battle near Marvin Gaye Park. She leaves behind a young son and grieving family. A vigil was held by her friends and family. May her memory be for a blessing and may justice and peace be served.





Mural for Darius Burts | 2700 block of Bruce Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday, March 28, 2021, in the 2700 block of Bruce Place SE, Washington, DC. At approximately 1:31 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim, inside of a residence, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as 27 year-old Darius Burts, of Southeast DC.

I spoke briefly with Mr. Burt's nephew about the mural and offered my condolences for his loss. Mr. Burt's nickname was Wop, hence “Wopland” for the housing complex he lived in, Woodland Terrace.

In remembrance of Marcquael Chambers | 2700 block of Bruce Place SE


From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, in the 2700 block of Bruce Place SE, Washington DC.  At approximately 11:13 am, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital, where despite all life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 22 year-old Marcquael Chambers, of Southeast, DC. 

This memorial is directly adjacent to the mural honoring Darius Burts, also slain in the Woodland Terrace housing complex. May their loved ones and the community be spared further grief.

In memory of Dejuan Hailstorks | 3200 block of 13th Street NW DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, February 21, 2022, in the 3200 block of 13th Street NW, Washington DC. At approximately 8:33 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the sound of a gunshot. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found that the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as 33 year-old Dejuan Hailstorks, of Northwest DC.

Shrine for Miana Luckett | 1500 block of North Capitol Street NE DC

 

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, in the 1500 block of North Capitol Street NE, Washington DC. At approximately 3:39 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located an adult female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital, where despite all life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 34 year-old Miana Luckett, of Southeast, DC.
