Street shrine in honor of Anthony Richardson | 3900 block of South Capitol Street SW DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in the 3900 block of South Capitol Street SW, Washington, DC. At approximately 9:39 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located two adult male victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported both victims to area hospitals. After all life-saving efforts failed, one of the victims was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 23-year-old Anthony Richardson, of Southeast, DC. 

May he rest in eternal peace.

There are two other streets shrines to homicide victims within a few yards of this one. May the community know justice and be spared further grief.

Street shrine for Mr. Benjie Byers | 6200 block of Georgia Avenue NW DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, in the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue NW, Washington DC. At approximately 5:58 pm, members of the Fourth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located three adult male victims and one juvenile male victim all suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The additional victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as 33-year-old Benjie Byers, of Northwest, DC.


This shrine to Mr. Byers is in a busy section of upper Georgia Avenue.

Police tape at the site of the slaying of James Brooks | 200 block of 37th Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Sunday, January 15, 2023, in the 200 block of 37th Street SE, Washington, DC. At approximately 7:25 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from apparent puncture wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as 53-year-old James Brooks, of no fixed address.

On Monday, January 16, 2023, 45 year-old Sherman Holley, of no fixed address, was arrested by members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Emergency Response Team after he barricaded himself inside of a residence. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

Balloons at the site of Mr. Morgan Francis' demise | 4700 block of 1st Street SW DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the 4700 block of 1st Street SW, Washington DC. At approximately 10:41 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim, inside a residential building, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as 56-year-old Morgan Francis, of Southwest, DC.

Police tape for Mr. Raymond Johnson | 1500 block of 19th Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, January 16, 2023, in the 1500 block of 19th Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 11:56 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious male. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from apparent puncture wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as 59-year-old Raymond Johnson, of Southeast, DC.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, December 30, 2022, in the 900 block of 12th Street SE, Washington, DC. At approximately 6:09 pm, members of the First District responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent has been identified as 32-year-old Reekey Garner, of Northeast, DC.

Renando Griffin's memorial | 3200 block 15th Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, January 15, 2023, in the 3200 block of 15th Place SE, Washington DC. At approximately 12:49 am, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, the members located two adult male victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported both victims to area hospitals. After all life-saving efforts failed, one of the victims was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 34-year-old Renando Griffin, of Southeast, DC.

Robert Cunningham | Hero. His memorial in a Metro Station, 1400 block of Potomac Avenue SE DC

Mr. Cunningham died a hero.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest in a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, inside of the Potomac Avenue Metro Station. At approximately 9:19 am, MPD First District officers responded to 1400 block of Potomac Avenue SE, Washington DC,, for the report of the sounds of gunshots directly outside of the Potomac Avenue Metro Station. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a gunfire on the sidewalk. Officers then entered the Metro Station and located two adult male shooting victims. The detectives’ investigation revealed that the suspect was on a Metrobus, at the listed location, when he brandished a handgun and engaged in an altercation with an adult male victim. After the suspect and victim exited the bus, the suspect discharged the handgun striking the victim. This victim left the scene and notified police of the event. This victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

After shooting the victim mentioned above, the suspect then entered the Potomac Avenue Metro Station and fired the handgun, striking the second victim. The suspect then pointed the handgun at a female and a verbal exchange ensued. At this time, the decedent, who was a WMATA employee, attempted to intervene. The suspect fired the handgun striking the decedent. The suspect then entered an occupied Metro rail car. After a brief period of time, passengers were able to disarm the suspect. The suspect was detained by responding officers. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The second victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, there were initial reports of a fourth victim with a minor gunshot wound to the hand. During the investigation, it was determined the victim sustained a laceration and the injury was not as a result of gunfire. The decedent has been identified as 64-year-old Robert Cunningham, of Silver Spring, MD.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, 31-year-old Isaiah Trotman, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed, Kidnapping while Armed and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
