Holding Court. Memorial for Kenneth Ronald Davis Jr. | 2000 block of 16th Street SE DC

From a DC Police report and the Washington Post: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of W Street SE, Washington DC, on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. At approximately 1:00 am, Seventh District officers responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from life threatening gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Kenneth Ronald Davis Jr., 22, of Southeast, DC.
 The shooting occurred in front of a church just off Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, according to police. Police said the victim apparently ran several blocks and collapsed in a small field at Green and Galen Streets SE.

According to reporter John Muller, Mr. Davis often held court in a beach chair in the 2000 block of 16th Street SE, near the site of his demise. His friends and loved ones have created a fitting memorial to him at his favorite spot, incorporating elements of his life.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue NW, Washington DC, on Sunday, July 30, 2017. At approximately 2:00 am, members of the Fourth District responded to the area for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was discovered in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue, Northwest, unconscious, but breathing. He was transported to an area hospital in grave condition. The second victim, Juan Carlos Osorio-Herrera, 24, was discovered in the 4800 block of 5th Street Northwest, unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and EMS found no signs consistent with life and pronounced him dead.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred alongside of the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Jr., Avenue SE Washington DC, on Monday, August 14, 2017.
 At approximately 12:30 pm, Seventh District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male inside of a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The victim displayed no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as Dante McNeil, 31, of Southeast, DC.


According to a a Facebook account by reporter John Muller, Mr. McNeil's loved ones and friends have added candles and other material to this shrine in his memory.

Crime. Site of the slaying of Jamahri Syndor | 1400 block of Saratoga Avenue NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide offense that occurred in the 1400 block of Saratoga Avenue NE, Washington DC,, on Thursday, August 10, 2017. At approximately 3:32 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. A juvenile female was also located, inside of a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported both victims to area hospitals. The juvenile female was admitted in grave condition. On Saturday, August 12, 2017, the juvenile female succumbed to her injuries and has been pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Jamahri Sydnor, 17, of Northeast, DC.
On Thursday, August 10, 2017, a 21-year-old Adult Male, of Northeast DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun). Appropriate upgraded charges are pending against the defendant.

From all accounts, Ms. Syndor was an admirable young woman with a bright future. It appears she was slain by a stray bullet. This is a very tragic situation. May she and her family know peace, and may justice be served.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 3400 block of 18th Street, NE, Washington DC,  on Thursday, August 3, 2017. At approximately 7:40 pm, Fifth District officers responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located four adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim sustained life threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The other three victims sought treatment at area hospitals for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The decedent has been identified as Jarvis Belle, 29, of Northeast, DC.

Candles for Victor Williams | Anacostia River Trail DC

From a DC police report: 3300 block East Capitol St SE Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the Anacostia River Trail, south of the 3300 block of East Capitol Street SE, Washington DC, on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. At approximately 8:30 am, members of the Sixth District were dispatched to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arriving on the scene, members located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The victim displayed no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Victor Williams, 37, of Southeast DC.

These burned candles from a vigil were located in the middle of this ordinarily tranquil park trail along the Anacostia River.

May it return to tranquility soon, and evermore.

Shrine in the 1000 block of 17th Place NE DC

From Popville: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 1000 block of 17th Street, Northeast, on Thursday, July 21, 2017.
At approximately 10:51 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the rear alley of the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arriving on the scene, members located an unconscious and unresponsive adult male victim. The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Marcus Stephens, 26, of Oxon Hill (information from MPD).

While looking for a possible memorial for Mr. Stephens, I found this older shrine a half-block away in the 1000 block of 17th Place NE, Washington DC. It is probably an older creation. I am happy to post updated information should anyone have it.

According to the Washington Post, Jerome T. Marshall, then 17, was slain at this location in 2004.

Rodney Taylor, 26, was also slain at 17th Place  & L NE in August, 1994. An extensive and moving Washington Post article on this sad event can be read here:

Shameka Delephine Jones - police tape in the 2200 block of Savannah Terrace SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 2200 block of Savannah Terrace SE, Washington DC, on Saturday, July 22, 2017. At approximately 8:16 am, members of the Seventh District were dispatched to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arriving on the scene, members located an adult female, inside of a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded and found no signs consistent with life and the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as Shameka Delephine Jones, 32, of Southeast DC. On Saturday, July 22, 2017, Ronald Randolph, Jr., 40, of Southeast DC was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.

Police tape for Leonte Cox in the 1600 block of R Street SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing that occurred in the 1600 block of R Street SE, Washington DC, on Saturday, June 17, 2017. At approximately 9:06 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of an Aggravated Assault. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from multiple stab wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. On June 26, 2017, at approximately 3:01 am, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Leonte Cox, 23, of Southeast DC. On Tuesday, June 27, 2017, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant,  Kimberly Shaw, 35, of Southeast DC, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

This site is less than one block from the main entrance of Anacostia High School.
