Michael Brittingham's street memorial | 600 block of 46th Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday, August 6, 2020, in the 600 block of 46th Place SE, Washington DC. At approximately 5:47 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. A second adult male was located at the scene, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Additionally, a juvenile male walked into a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as Michael Brittingham, 26, of Northeast DC. 

I spoke briefly to a person at this site, and he expressed a thoughtful desire for a wiser more peaceful situation for his community.









Police tape at the site of Taijhon Wyatt, Jr.'s murder | 5500 block of 9th Street NW DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a vehicle of interest in reference to a homicide that occurred on Monday, August 10, 2020, in the 5500 block of 9th Street NW, Washington DC. At approximately 9:34 pm, members of the Fourth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. Additionally, officers located a second victim, an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as Taijhon Wyatt, Jr., 17, of Northeast DC. 

This young man's life was lost in an alley in the Petworth neighborhood. May there be peace for him, his family, and for the community.





Flowers and memory for Ronald Brown | 3400 block of 18th Street SE DC.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday, August 22, 2019, in the 3400 block of 18th Street SE, Washington DC.

At approximately 10:02 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the 1700 block of Trenton Place, Southeast, for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an unconscious adult male victim, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 3400 block of 18th Street, Southeast. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found that the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. 

The decedent has been identified as Ronald Brown, 28, of Southeast DC.


This graceful memorial to Mr. Brown has been sustained for more than a year.

Site of a double homicide - Jakeem Chandler and Montrell Lucas | 1600 block of Maryland Avenue NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in the 1600 block of Maryland Avenue NE, Washington DC. At approximately 8:46 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Additionally, an unconscious adult male was located inside of a hallway of a residential building, at the listed location, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. A second adult male victim was located inside of an apartment, in the same residential building, suffering from a gunshot wound. The identity of the first decedent is Jakeem Chandler, 28, of Danville, VA. The second decedent has been identified as Montrell Lucas, 18, of Alexandria, VA. The information gathered at the scene suggests that this offense occurred inside a residence at the listed location. 

This neighborhood in Northeast DC is rapidly gentrifying. I was unable to find a street memorial for these two young men, whose lives were cut short by violence. 

May there be justice and may their loved ones be comforted and sustained.



Street shrine for Christopher Brown | site of mass shooting, 3300 block of Dubois Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, August 9, 2020, in the 3300 block of Dubois Place SE, Washington DC. At approximately 12:20 am, members of the Sixth District were at the listed location, due to a large gathering, when they heard the sounds of gunshots. Officers canvassed the area and located multiple victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported victims to area hospitals for treatment of non-life and life threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, a juvenile male victim was pronounced dead. In total, twenty-two victims sustained gunshot wounds. Two others sustained injuries while fleeing from the scene. The decedent has been identified as Christopher Brown, 17, of Northeast DC. 

According to press reports, twenty-two people were shot during a large gathering in the Greenway neighborhood. efforts re being made to calm the situation and to increase the safety of the community. 

May the many wounded recover and be healed, and may young Mr. Brown rest in peace.






In honor of Arvel Wills | 500 block of I Street NE DC

 From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2020, in the 500 block of I Street NE, Washington DC. At approximately 5:35 pm, members of the First and Fifth Districts responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The decedent has been identified as Arvel Wills, 31, of Northeast DC.
