In memory of the life of Michael Sturgent Morris | 1800 block of Providence Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, June 29, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of Providence Street NE, Washington DC,, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim inside of a residence. He died at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 45-year-old Michael Sturgent Morris, of Northeast.

Candle shrine for Danzell Hall | 1500 block of Benning Road NE DC

From a DC Police report: On Friday, July 12, 2024, at approximately 2:52 a.m., members of the Fifth District responded to the report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Benning Road NE, Washington DC. Officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, and after finding no signs consistent with life, the man was pronounced dead on scene. The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Danzell Hall, of Northeast, DC. 

This small park at the corner of Benning Road and H Street NE has had quite a number of shrines built to those who lost their lives in the vicinity. May their loved ones and the community be spared further grief. 

In honor of the life of Ambria Farmer | 3300 block of Fort DuPont Drive SE DC

From a DC Police report: The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Fort Dupont Park. On Saturday, July 13, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Sixth District responded to the report of an unconscious person in the park area near the 3300 block of Fort DuPont Drive SE, Washington DC. Officers located a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim was pronounced dead on scene. The decedent has been identified as 21-year-old Ambria Farmer of District Heights, MD.

Street shrine for Alfred Fields | 3100 block of Buena Vista Terrace SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Monday, July 1, 2024, at approximately 6:44 p.m., officers responded to the 3100 block of Buena Vista Terrace SE, Washington DC, for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim in the street suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where despite all life-saving efforts he died from his injuries. The decedent has been identified as 55-year-old Alfred Fields, of no fixed address. 

This neighborhood has been challenged by a a wave of violence in recent times. I pray that wiser hearts bring a situation of calm, peace, and safety.

In memory of Dwayne Boyd | 3500 block of East Capitol Street SE DC

 

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 8:06 p.m., officers responded to the 3500 block of East Capitol Street SE, Washington DC, for the report of an assault. When they arrived, they found a man with multiple stab wounds. He died at the scene. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Dwayne Boyd, of no fixed address. On Sunday, June 23, 2024, 32-year-old Vanessa Bonaparte, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed. The detectives’ investigation determined that this offense was domestic in nature.

Flowers for Kaan Demir | 800 block of Underwood Street NW DC

 

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, June 9, 2024, at approximately 11:36 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Underwood Street NW, Washington DC, for the report of sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located a man with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Kaan Demir, of Springfield, VA.

Site of the slaying of Raymond Washington | 700 block of Missouri Avenue NW DC

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, June 30, 2024, at approximately 4:17 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Missouri Avenue NW, Washington DC, for the sounds of gunshots. Officers canvased the 5700 block of 7th Street, Northwest, where they located an adult male shooting victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. After all lifesaving efforts failed, he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 18-year-old Raymond Washington of Northeast.
