Flowers and libations for David Scott | 2300 block of 15th Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, September 24, 2022, in the 2300 block of 15th Street NE, Washington DC. At approximately 12:59 am, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 32-year-old David Scott, of Northeast, DC.

RIP Kenneth Morris III | 3200 block of Walters Lane, District Heights MD

From a PG County Police report: The Homicide Unit is working to identify and arrest the suspect(s) who fatally shot a man on Thursday in District Heights. The victim in 28-year-old Kenneth Morris III of Capitol Heights. On October 20, 2022, at approximately 2:05 pm, officers responded to a gas station in the 3200 block of Walters Lane, District Heights, Maryland. The victim was located in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators are working to identify the suspect(s) and determine a motive.

In loving memory of Mars Jones, two years old | Unit block of Atlantic Street SW DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Thursday, October 13, 2022, in the Unit block of Atlantic Street, Southwest. At approximately 9:04 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious child. Upon arrival, the members located a juvenile male who was unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent’s remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed. As a result, the OCME determined the cause of death to be complications of inflicted trauma and ruled the manner of death a homicide.The decedent has been identified as 2-year-old Mars Jones, of Southwest, DC. 

 On Thursday, November 3, 2022, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended 23 year-old Dasean Matthews, of Southeast, DC. Matthews was charged with First Degree Murder – Felony Murder.

Memorial for Makya Hardy-Myers | 1200 block of Meigs Place NE DC

I encountered this memorial in the 1200 block of Meigs Place NE, Washington DC. 

On September 26, 2022, 23-year-old Jamal Gibson, of Southeast, DC was found slain at this location, according to a DC Police report. 

This large banner memorial is not for Mr. Gibson, but is placed to remember Makya Hardy-Myers, who died on January 11, 2003. It features an image of a healing and spiritual book written by his mother Sharon (Montsha) Hardy-Myers in the wake of her loss.
