In memory of Charnice Milton / Good Hope and Naylor Roads SE DC

Fliers promoting the opening of a bookstore named in her honor, police posters that offer a reward for the arrest of her killer, and the deep impact of a bullet mark a bus shelter at the intersection of Good Hope and Naylor Roads SE, Washington DC; the site of the death of journalist Charnice Milton.

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at approximately 9:41 pm.
Officers investigating the sound of gunshots in the area of Good Hope and Naylor Roads SE located an adult female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the 2700 block of Good Hope Road SE. The decedent was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The decedent has been identified as Charnice Milton, 27, of Southeast, DC.

Ms. Milton was a highly-respected young journalist covering the community she grew up in.

Her killers have not been found.

A bookstore named in her honor has just opened in the basement of We Act Radio at 1918 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, Washington DC. Her colleague, reporter and noted local historian John Muller, was instrumental in bringing about this appropriate living tribute to Ms. Milton.

May her work and memory ever be for a blessing.

Thanks to John Muller for his significant help in this matter.

FYI: Ivy Tonnett Smith, 39, was also slain at this bus stop on March 6, 2016, as reported by the DC police and WJLA TV.

May she too, and this community, know peace.

Lieutenant Richard Wilbur Collins III / University of Maryland campus in College Park MD / "I hope heaven is everything you could ever dream of"

On May 20, 2017, at approximately 3:05 am, Richard Wilbur Collins III, 23, was stabbed to death on Regents Drive on the University of Maryland campus in College Park, Maryland, according to a report by the University of Maryland Police.

Sean Christopher Urbanski, 22, has been charged with the slaying.

Mr. Collins had just recently received his commission as a lieutenant in the United States Army, and was scheduled to graduate from Bowie State University.

According to numerous witnesses, the attack was unprovoked. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the slaying as a possible hate crime.

A vigil was held at the site of the slaying, and the graduation ceremony at Bowie State University this week incorporated moving honors to the life and memory of Lieutenant Collins.

There has been extensive local and national attention paid to this tragic situation. The Washington Post, NPR, CNN, and others all have meaningful extensive online articles.

The funeral and memorial at Bowie State University are covered in an AP article published by the Washington Post.

May justice be served, and there be comfort and peace for the family and friends of this fine young individual.

Shrine to unknown person, 200 block of Zelma Avenue, Capitol Heights MD

While looking for a possible shrine built for Jan Cotto, who was slain in the 200 block of Zelma Ave, Capitol Heights, Maryland, on April 6, 2017, I encountered this older memorial in the immediate vicinity. This shrine appears briefly in a NBC news video. A child, Demetri Hooper, 6 months old, was also slain in this block in 2016.

I believe this shrine is possibly for an older incident. I cannot find anything on the situation.

Peace to these departed souls, and to this community.
