Sirocco Delonte Johnson | RIP ( shrine on Trenton Place SE)

From a DC police report: On Friday, April 13, 2012, at approximately 11:45 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the 1200 block of Trenton Place SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, they located an adult male, identified as Sirrocco Delonte Johnson, 31, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

I spoke with some of his friends and neighbors, on what has generally been a quiet block. One friend sadly said "we all loved him."

After I made the photographs, several young men arrived, bringing more chairs and a folding table. They dealt out cards and began socializing, while go-go music thumped out the beat from speakers in a van parked nearby.

Two shrines for James Sherrod | Kenilworth Terrace NE

From a DC police report: On Saturday, April 28, 2012 at approximately 1:40 pm, units from the Sixth District responded to the 700 block of Kenilworth Terrace NE, Washington DC,  for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon their arrival, they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim, identified as James Ray Sherrod, 22, to a local hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead. 

On Monday, April 30, 2012, at approximately 2:45 pm, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Dietrich Baker, 23, charging him with Murder Two while Armed in the fatal shooting.

There are two shrines erected in his memory about half a block apart.

I spoke with both neighbors and the sister of Mr. Sherrod. The situation is very sad, and I wish them peace.

Memorial for David Anthony Shaw: District Heights MD

This shrine to David Anthony Shaw is near the corner of Boones Lane and Marlboro Pike in District Heights, MD.

From a Prince Georges police blog: On April 1, 2012, at approximately 8:17 am., patrol officers responded to the 2700 block of Judith Avenue, District Heights MD, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located David Anthony Shaw, 21, of the 6500 block of Hill Mar Drive, Forestville, Maryland, and another man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital where Shaw was pronounced dead and the other man was treated for his injuries and released. Preliminarily, the investigation revealed Shaw announced a robbery at the home. Shaw knew the six people who were inside. He shot one of the robbery victims in the leg, prompting another robbery victim to try to disarm Shaw. That victim wrestled the gun away from Shaw and shot Shaw. Shaw later died of his injuries. Homicide detectives  and the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office will review the incident to determine if the shooting was a justified act of self-defense.

Shrine to unknown victim- 1400 block Columbia Rd NW, Washington DC.

I documented this street shrine to an unknown victim. It is in the 1400 block of Columbia Road NW, Washington DC.

A murder occurred near this site a few months ago, but I do not know if this shrine is for that crime's victim. I could find no concrete records online for either homicides or accidents at this site.

I was alerted to its existence by my friend, artist Eve Hennessa.

Shrine for a murdered child, Keyontae Osbia Moore

This very sad shrine, with numerous dolls, is in memory of a toddler who was murdered recently in Southeast Washington DC.

This shrine really got to me... May there be peace in the universe, and in all hearts.

From a DC Police report: On Monday, March 5, 2012, units from the Seventh District were dispatched to United Medical Center. Upon arrival it was discovered that a 20-month-old child had been transported there from the 3000 block of 30th Street SE, Washington DC. The child, 20-month-old Keyontae Osbia Moore, was in extremely critical condition and was immediately transported to Children’s Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead. On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, an autopsy was completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide and the cause of death has been ruled blunt impact trauma. On Monday, March 12, 2012, at approximately 11:15 am, members from the Special Victim’s Unit arrested Jonathan T. Fullard, 38, and charged him with First Degree Felony Murder.

James Johnson | The Library is closed

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, March 18, 2012, at approximately 2:27 am, officers from the Fifth District responded to the 3500 block of 12th Street NE, Washington DC, for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from a stab wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as James Barrington Johnson, 34, of no fixed address.

Mr. Johnson appears to have been slain inside the Library nightclub, which has been ordered closed by city authorities.

Delonte McCray's street shrine | Temple Hills MD

From a Prince George's County Police report: On March 2, 2012, at approximately 11:13 pm, patrol officers responded to the 2600 block of Keating Street in Temple Hills, Maryland, for the report of a shooting. Officers found Delonte Michael McCray, 18, lying on the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on March 3, 2012.

Memorial for Tyesha Williams | Suitland Road PG County

This memorial to Tyesha Williams is on Suitland Road in Suitland Maryland. The driver of the vehicle she died in has been charged with manslaughter.
From a TV news source: A driver who left the scene of a deadly crash in Prince George's County last month is now in custody. Daron Britt, 21, has been arrested in Washington DC on a gun charge. Prince George's County Police are charging Britt with manslaughter.
Police say Britt was driving a SUV when it crashed into a tree on Suitland Road near Hil-Mar Drive in the early morning hours of February 19, 2012
Tyesha Williams, 19, was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene.

Ms. Williams leaves behind a 2-year-old son.
