Yellow police tape: Dajuan Donald Hart's homicide site- 3300 block of D Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, in the 3300 block of D Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 9:52 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. While canvasing the area, officers located a second adult male victim who was unconscious suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the first victim to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The second victim displayed no signs consistent with life and remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The decedent has been identified as Dajuan Donald Hart, 23, of Southeast DC.

Holy lights | Street shrine for Jonathan Hernandez - 100 block of T Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, May 18, 2019, in the 100 block of T Street NE, Washington DC. At approximately 5:24 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an unconscious adult male victim, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. A second adult male victim was located suffering from a gunshot wound. The second victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as Jonathan Hernandez, 25, of Southeast DC.

These flowers and candles were in a generally quiet street near high school.

Ghostbike memorial for David Salovesh | 12th Street and Florida Avenue NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred on Friday, April 19, 2019, in the intersection of 12th Street and Florida Avenue NE, Washington DC. At approximately 10:00 a.m., an automated license plate reader alerted that there was a stolen white van in the area of Benning Road NE. Metropolitan Police Department Fifth District officers saw the stolen van near the area of Benning Road and Florida Ave NE and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop for the officers and fled the area. A short time later, officers from the Fifth District discovered the driver of the stolen van was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of 12th Street and Florida Avenue NE. The preliminary investigation into this crash revealed that the driver of the stolen van was speeding, while traveling westbound on Florida Avenue NE. When the driver reached the intersection of 12th Street and Florida Avenue NE, he failed to stop at the red light and struck a blue Hyundai that was traveling South on 12th Street NE. The driver of the stolen van then proceeded to travel westbound on Florida Avenue NE, crossing over the double yellow lines, striking an adult male cyclist following the flow of traffic in an eastbound lanes of Florida Avenue NE. The driver of the stolen vehicle then struck a tree. MPD officers arrived on the scene shortly after the traffic crash and placed the driver of the stolen van under arrest. The driver of the striking vehicle was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the blue Hyundai did not sustain any injuries. The adult male cyclist showed no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead on the scene. The decedent has been identified as David Salovesh, 54, of Northeast, DC. On Friday, April 19, 2019, Robert Earl Little, Jr, 25, of Northwest, DC was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.


Mr Salovesh was a leader in the local cycling community and was well loved and respected. I spoke to one of his friends at the shrine site. He came to pay his respects. He said "he was the best. He was so much better than most of us." There is a lot of material on his life and on the reaction to his death,  plus the the activism regarding safety undertaken by the local cycling community of which he was a part. Shrine at the site of a double homicide: Jobe McDowney and Desimon Richardson | 4900 block of Nash Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, April 4, 2019, in the 4900 block of Nash Street NE, Washington DC. At approximately 8:15 pm, members of the Sixth District responded for the report of the sounds of gunshots at the listed location. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males, inside the stairwell of a residential building, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and found no signs consistent with life. An additional adult male victim was located in the 900 block of 44th Street, Northeast, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The decedents have been identified as Jobe McDowney, 23, of Southeast DC, and Desimon Richardson, 21, of Temple Hills, MD.

Street memorial to Corey Farmer | 400 block of 37th Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, in the 400 block of 37th Place SE, Washington DC. At approximately 1:03 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males and a juvenile male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported all three victims to local hospitals for treatment. On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, Corey Farmer, 19, of Southeast DC, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Dawud Debruhl's memorial - 1300 block of Columbia Road NW

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2019, in the 1300 block of Columbia Road NW, Washington DC. At approximately 6:21 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Dawud Debruhl, 25, of Northwest, DC.

Both of these men have shrines facing one another across an alley in the Columbia Heights Village neighborhood.

Shrine in honor of Georgette Goodman, 4700 block of 1st Street SW DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, February 25, 2019, in the 4700 block of 1st Street SW, Washington DC. At approximately 6:25 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The decedent has been identified as Georgette Goodman, 35, of Southwest DC.

RIP Dre / unknown, 300 block of 53rd Street NE

I saw this graffiti memorial to "Dre" in the 300 block of 53rd Street NE, Washington DC. It is in the Clay Terrace area, adjacent to the long-standing memorial to Makiyah Wilson.

I have no further information on this case.

Memorial for a double slaying: Joseph Burgess and Regina Bowman | 3300 Block of Ely Place SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, January 5, 2019, in the 3300 Block of Ely Place SE, Washington DC. At approximately 6:30 am, DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the listed location for a residential fire. Once the fire was extinguished, two victims were located inside the residence. Both victims displayed no signs consistent with life. On Sunday, January 6, 2019, an autopsy was performed on the victims’ remains. As a result, the manner of death for each victim was ruled a homicide. The first decedent has been identified as Joseph Burgess, 60, of Southeast DC. The second decedent has been identified as Regina Bowman, 50, of Southeast DC.

Abdul Watts | 5300 block of Dix Street NE DC

This memorial to Abdul Watts is at the edge of a community garden adjacent to Clay Terrace in Northeast DC. It is a neighborhood that has long been deeply challenged by violence.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, in the 5300 block of Dix Street NE, Washington DC. At approximately 3:35 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim, identified as Abdul Watts, 46, of District Heights, MD, was pronounced dead.

Curtis Wills-Bey | 3000 block of Stanton Road SE DC

I believe this shrine is in honor of the memory of Curtis Wills-Bey. There have been numerous homicides in this area over the years. I trust that safety and peace returns, and that Mr. Wills-Bey rests in peace.

At approximately 2:21 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim, identified as Curtis Wills-Bey, 53, of Southeast DC, was pronounced dead.

Albert Ford | Police tape. 3700 block of O Street SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, January 24, 2019, in the 3700 block of O Street SE, Washington DC. At approximately 8:20 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The decedent’s identity is being withheld due to pending next of kin notification.
DC Witness identifies the victim as Albert Ford, 56.

This is a very quiet neighborhood, and trouble of this nature is very rare in the area. I wish continued peace and safety for the residents.

Shamar Marbury | Police tape. 4200 block of Barnaby Road SE DC

From a DC police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, in the 4200 block of Barnaby Road SE, Washington DC. At approximately 8:43 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim, inside of a residential building, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Shamar Marbury, 19, of Northeast DC.
