Dominic Brooks memorial / 800 block of Chesapeake Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in a fatal stabbing that occurred in the 800 block of Chesapeake Street SE, Washington DC, on Friday, June 9, 2017. At approximately 1:27 am, members of the Seventh District responded to the 800 block of Chesapeake Street SE for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from a stab wound. The victim was unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as Dominic Brooks, 29, of Southeast, DC.

This memorial to Mr. Brooks is at the entrance to a military veterans facility.
