Shrine for Tyrone Kearney | 1200 block of Valley Avenue SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at approximately 5:34 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 1200 block of Valley Avenue SE, Washington DC, for reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male who was unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Tyrone Kearney, of Southeast, DC.

Police shooting | David Warren Childs , 4700 block of Minnesota Avenue NE DC

From a DC Police report: The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau and Investigative Services Bureau are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the Deanwood neighborhood. On Monday, November 17, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Sixth District officers and members of the DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force were proactively patrolling in the 4700 block of Minnesota Avenue NE, Washington DC, after concerns were raised at a community meeting on Sunday over the sound of gunfire in the area. During the patrol, officers encountered a suspect armed with a firearm tucked in his waistband. When officers approached the suspect, he immediately fled, and officers chased the suspect on foot, issuing multiple loud commands for the suspect to stop. An officer caught up with the suspect in the 1200 block of 47th Place, Northeast, and a brief struggle ensued. During the struggle, the officer again issued multiple loud commands for the suspect to show his hands. The suspect did not comply and reached toward his waistband, where the firearm was located. At that time, the officer discharged their service weapon, striking the suspect.

The officer immediately called for DC Fire and EMS to respond to the scene, and additional officers arrived and began providing lifesaving care. After all lifesaving efforts failed, the suspect was pronounced dead. The suspect’s firearm was recovered on the scene. The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old David Warren Childs, of Northeast, DC.

The involved members have been placed on administrative leave, pursuant to MPD policy. The release of body-worn camera footage is pursuant to District of Columbia law (D.C. Official Code § 5–116.33 (c)(2)). The officer-involved shooting is under investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau’s Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District of Columbia. The United States Attorney’s Office will independently review the facts and evidence in the case.

Shrine for Sarah Beckstrom | 17th and I Streets NW DC

Sarah Beckstrom, 20, National Guard member, was shot and killed November 26, 2025 at the corner of 17th and I streets NW, Washington DC. 

From the Washington Post: “One of the two National Guard members shot Wednesday near the White House complex has died... The victim, Spec. Sarah Beckstrom, was a 20-year-old from West Virginia. The second critically wounded National Guard member, Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still fighting for his life..."

 Rahmanullah Lakanwal has been arrested and charged with murder.

This shrine outside the Metro stop where the shooting occurred was erected by the Hazara American community.

Flower shrine for Simon Getachew | 3800 block of 9th Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, October 12, 2025, at approximately 10:18 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3800 block of 9th Street SE, Washington DC. Upon arrival officers located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 30-year-old Simon Getachew, of Northwest. 

May his soul and his loved ones be spared further grief.

Site of the passing of Keith Maurice Thomas | 6300 block of Seat Pleasant Drive, Seat Pleasant MD

From a Prince George’s County Police Department report: The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a now fatal shooting. The suspect is 41-year-old Christopher Reid of Seat Pleasant. He’s charged with shooting 35-year-old Keith Maurice Thomas of Capitol Heights, Maryland.  On October 1, 2025, at approximately 2:00 pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 6300 block of Seat Pleasant Drive in the unincorporated section of Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Officers located Thomas inside of a business suffering from gunshot wounds. He died of his injuries on October 3, 2025. Officers located and took Reid into custody near the scene of the shooting. Gun Crimes Unit detectives initially charged him with attempted first degree murder and related charges. Investigators are in consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office to have the charges amended to first and second degree murder and related charges. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Shrine to Francois Adkins | 2300 block of 14th Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: On Monday, September 1, 2025, at approximately 4:16 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 2300 block of 14th Street NE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious but breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital, where after all lifesaving efforts, the decedent was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 36-year-old Francois Adkins of Northwest, DC.

From a DC Police report: On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at approximately 12:25 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 300 block of Anacostia Road SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male, inside of the location, unconscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital, where after all lifesaving measures failed, he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 31-year-old Franck Foute Mohdjiom, of Southeast, DC.

Police tape at the site of a double homicide | Tiffany Montgomery and Patrick Cockrell Jr | 600 block of G Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 8:25 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 4600 block of G Street SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female and adult male inside of the residence, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving efforts failed both victims were pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation indicates the adult male shot the adult female during a domestic dispute. The adult male’s injuries are believed to be self-inflicted. The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Tiffany Montgomery, of Southeast, DC. The male decedent has been identified as 43-year-old Patrick Cockrell Jr, of Southeast, DC. 

A rose for Honesty Cheadle | 1000 block of 14th Street SE DC

This one really got to me.

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, July 5, 2025, at approximately 3:03 a.m., First District officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 1000 block of 14th Street SE, Washington DC. Officers located a 3-year-old girl suffering a gunshot wound to the upper body. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the girl to an area hospital, where she received treatment for critical injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed that at least one suspect began discharging a firearm in the block, striking a parked vehicle where the girl was seated alongside family members. 

On Monday, July 7, 2025, the victim succumbed to her injuries. The victim has been identified as 3-year-old Honesty Cheadle, of Southeast, DC. 

“This is a tragedy for Honesty’s family and our entire city, and I express my deepest condolences to her loved ones as they cope with such an unimaginable loss” said Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith. “Our detectives are working hard, pursuing several leads, and will do everything in their power to find those responsible for this shooting and bring them to justice.”

A sign memorial for Jonathan Fuentes-Ferrufino | 4100 block of 7th Street NW DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, June 8, 2025, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Fourth District officers responded to the report of a stabbing in a residence in the 4100 block of 7th Street NW, Washington DC. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, suffering from stab wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving efforts failed, the man was pronounced dead on the scene. Officers placed the suspect under arrest and recovered a knife. The decedent has been identified as 27-year-old Jonathan Fuentes-Ferrufino of Northwest, DC. As a result of the detectives’ investigation, 25-year-old Leslie Flores of Northwest, DC was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

Shrine from 'Daddy's Girls ' - Quonzay Lynch & Cortney Burley | 1800 block of D Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, June 22, 2025, at approximately 12:03 a.m., Fifth District officers were patrolling near the 1800 block of D Street NE, Washington DC, when they heard the sound of gunshots. While canvassing the area, officers located two adult male victims who were unconscious and not breathing suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving efforts failed both victims were pronounced dead. The decedents have been identified as 30-year-old Quonzay Lynch of Northeast, D.C. and 41-year-old Cortney Burley of Southeast, D.C.

For Dangelo Foster | 1100 block of 3rd Street SW DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 1:21 a.m., First District officers responded to the sound of gunshots in the rear of an apartment complex in the 1100 block of 3rd Street SW, Washington DC. Officers located an adult male, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving efforts failed the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 49-year-old Dangelo Foster, of Upper Marlboro, MD.

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 12:23 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to 500 block of Newcomb Street SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male unconscious not breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 31-year-old Alex Alexander of Gaithersburg, MD.

Street memorial for Dominique Dingle | 1000 block of 3rd Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 9:41 p.m., First District officers responded to the 1000 block of 3rd Place SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male, unconscious, not breathing, and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 16-year-old Dominique Dingle, of Southeast, DC. 

I met a grieving young man at this site. May he and all who knew young Mr. Dingle be spared further grief.

Red kerchief for Dar’Juan McRoy | 2900 block of Knox Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 2900 block of Knox Place SE, Washington DC, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male unconscious and not breathing suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving measures failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 22-year-old Dar’Juan McRoy, of Southeast, D.C.

Flowers for Ryan Matthews | 4600 block of Benning Road SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 9:48 p.m., Sixth District officers responded for the sounds of gunshots in the 4600 block of Benning Road SE, Washington DC. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. A short time later, a second victim, an adult male, arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds sustained in the same incident. The second victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as 36-year-old Ryan Matthews of Southeast, DC.

I spoke with a couple of men who lived nearby about the situation and wished them and their community peace. They in turn thanked me for doing what I do.

Police tape for a 14-year-old girl's death | 1700 block of Benning Road NE DC

From a DC Police report: Wednesday, May 21, 2025. At approximately 5:09 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1700 block of Benning Road NE, Washington DC for a report of a shooting. Officers located a 14-year-old girl inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers performed lifesaving measures. Unfortunately, the girl succumbed to her injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates the girl was handling a firearm while recording a video for social media when the weapon discharged, striking her in the upper body. Multiple individuals, including at least one adult, were inside the apartment when the shooting occurred. The firearm has been recovered.

“This is a devastating reminder of the dangers of weapons getting into the hands of young people in our city, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of the decedent,” said Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith. “Firearms are not toys or props and they must be properly secured in a place where they can only be accessed by lawful gun owners.” Fifth District detectives are investigating this case.

אֵל מָלֵא רַחֲמִים / Memorials for Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim | Capitol Jewish Museum DC

Several memorials have been placed to grieve for and honor the memories of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, who were murdered by gunshots on May 21st, 2025 because they were Jewish. The slayings occurred as they left an event at the Capitol Jewish Museum in the 500 block of Third Street NW, Washington DC. They were about to be engaged, and both were involved in peace-building efforts. 

May their memories be for a blessing, and their families be comforted among the mourners in Zion.

Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, 31, has been arrested for their deaths and is being held in custody. The murders are being investigated as a federal hate crime.

Memorial for Darius Young | 5000 block of Benning Road SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Thursday, March 13, 2025, at approximately 9:26 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to an establishment located in the 5000 block of Benning Road SE, Washington DC,, for the report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male inside the establishment, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. During the investigation it was determined the shooting occurred outdoors in the 5000 block of H Street, Southeast. The decedent has been identified as 33-year-old Darius Young, of Southeast, D.C.

On Monday, March 31, 2025, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the suspect, 37-year-old Cornell Day of Southeast. He is being charged pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated).
