Street shrine for Alex Alexander | 500 block of Newcomb Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 12:23 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to 500 block of Newcomb Street SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male unconscious not breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 31-year-old Alex Alexander of Gaithersburg, MD. 

May this community be granted peace and justice.

Street memorial for Dominique Dingle | 1000 block of 3rd Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 9:41 p.m., First District officers responded to the 1000 block of 3rd Place SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male, unconscious, not breathing, and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 16-year-old Dominique Dingle, of Southeast, DC. 

I met a grieving young man at this site. May he and all who knew young Mr. Dingle be spared further grief.





Red kerchief for Dar’Juan McRoy | 2900 block of Knox Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 2900 block of Knox Place SE, Washington DC, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male unconscious and not breathing suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving measures failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 22-year-old Dar’Juan McRoy, of Southeast, D.C.

Flowers for Ryan Matthews | 4600 block of Benning Road SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 9:48 p.m., Sixth District officers responded for the sounds of gunshots in the 4600 block of Benning Road SE, Washington DC. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. A short time later, a second victim, an adult male, arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds sustained in the same incident. The second victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as 36-year-old Ryan Matthews of Southeast, DC.

I spoke with a couple of men who lived nearby about the situation and wished them and their community peace. They in turn thanked me for doing what I do.


Police tape for a 14-year-old girl's death | 1700 block of Benning Road NE DC

From a DC Police report: Wednesday, May 21, 2025. At approximately 5:09 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1700 block of Benning Road NE, Washington DC for a report of a shooting. Officers located a 14-year-old girl inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers performed lifesaving measures. Unfortunately, the girl succumbed to her injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates the girl was handling a firearm while recording a video for social media when the weapon discharged, striking her in the upper body. Multiple individuals, including at least one adult, were inside the apartment when the shooting occurred. The firearm has been recovered.

“This is a devastating reminder of the dangers of weapons getting into the hands of young people in our city, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of the decedent,” said Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith. “Firearms are not toys or props and they must be properly secured in a place where they can only be accessed by lawful gun owners.” Fifth District detectives are investigating this case.

אֵל מָלֵא רַחֲמִים / Memorials for Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim | Capitol Jewish Museum DC

Several memorials have been placed to grieve for and honor the memories of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, who were murdered by gunshots on May 21st, 2025 because they were Jewish. The slayings occurred as they left an event at the Capitol Jewish Museum in the 500 block of Third Street NW, Washington DC. They were about to be engaged, and both were involved in peace-building efforts. 

May their memories be for a blessing, and their families be comforted among the mourners in Zion.

Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, 31, has been arrested for their deaths and is being held in custody. The murders are being investigated as a federal hate crime.

Memorial for Darius Young | 5000 block of Benning Road SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Thursday, March 13, 2025, at approximately 9:26 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to an establishment located in the 5000 block of Benning Road SE, Washington DC,, for the report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male inside the establishment, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. During the investigation it was determined the shooting occurred outdoors in the 5000 block of H Street, Southeast. The decedent has been identified as 33-year-old Darius Young, of Southeast, D.C.




On Monday, March 31, 2025, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the suspect, 37-year-old Cornell Day of Southeast. He is being charged pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated).


Death of Donella Bryan | 1600 block of Maryland Avenue NE DC

This situations is deeply tragic. May Ms. Bryan's memory be a blessing for those who knew and worked with her.

From a DC police report and DC News Now: On Saturday, April 19, 2025, at approximately 8:07 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in the 1600 block of Maryland Avenue NE, Washington DC. Officers located an adult female inside a dumpster. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life pronounced the woman dead. On Sunday, April 20, 2025, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death was blunt force trauma and asphyxiation. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. The decedent has been identified as 62-year-old Donella Bryan of Northeast, D.C.

For Christopher Daniels | 1300 block of Congress Street SE DC

From a DC Police report: On Friday, April 18, 2025, at approximately 12:24 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 1300 block of Savannah Place SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim unconscious and not breathing in the rear of the 1300 block of Congress Street, Southeast. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving measures failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Additionally, an adult male victim and a juvenile male victim both self-transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The decedent has been identified as 18-year-old Christopher Daniels of Southeast, DC.

Site of the passing of DeSean Mackall | 4200 block of Dix Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 12:43 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 4200 block of Dix Street NE, Washington DC, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving measures failed the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The decedent has been identified as 23-year-old DeSean Mackall, of Temple Hills, Maryland.

DiCarlo Dickerson | 1100 block of Eastern Avenue NE DC

From a DC Police report: On Saturday, April 5, 2025, at approximately 9:28 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 1100 block of Eastern Avenue NE, Washington, DC, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering gunshot wounds. After all lifesaving measures failed the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The decedent has been identified as 48-year-old DiCarlo Dickerson of Northeast, D.C.

Roses and crosses - shrine for Tyler Fludd | 5400 block of Silver Hill Road, District Heights MD

From a Prince George's County Police report: The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and charged two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting in District Heights. The suspects are 24-year-old Keyondre Joyner of Washington, DC and 18-year-old Jamiel Collins of Oxon Hill. They are charged with the murder of 20-year-old Tyler Fludd of Hyattsville.

On February 2, 2025, at approximately 5:20 pm, officers responded to a reported shooting in the 5400 block of Silver Hill Road, District Heights, Maryland. Officers located Fludd outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later. The preliminary investigation revealed Collins and Fludd were known to each other. Joyner and Collins planned to rob Fludd and Joyner shot Fludd during the robbery. Joyner and Collins are charged with first-degree murder and related charges.

Memorial for Aaron Thomas Jr. | 2000 block of 19th Place SE DC

From a DC Police report: The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a double shooting that left one man dead in Southeast. On February 11, 2025, at approximately 2:44 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a residential building in the 2000 block of 19th Place SE, Washington DC, for the report of a shooting. Officers located two adult males, conscious and breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Despite all lifesaving efforts, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Aaron Thomas Jr., of Owings Mills, Maryland. 

I spoke with a young man in the neighborhood, who expressed that these losses always stay with you.

In memory of Surafel Zerihun | 3500 block of Georgia Avenue NW DC

From a DC Police report: Agents from the Force Investigation Team of the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 3500 block of Georgia Avenue NW, Washington DC. On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at approximately 6:10 p.m., a driver heading southbound on Georgia Avenue drove into oncoming traffic and struck a marked MPD cruiser that was traveling northbound. Following the collision, the suspect got out of his vehicle, produced a knife and reached into the cruiser through the driver’s side window and demanded the officer’s service weapon. The officer retreated to the passenger seat of the cruiser and gave multiple loud verbal commands for the suspect to drop the knife and move away from the cruiser. The suspect continued to threaten the officer with the knife, and the officer fired his service weapon, striking the suspect. The officer immediately called for assistance and exited the cruiser to attempt lifesaving measures on the suspect. At that time, the suspect picked up the knife and started walking toward the officer. The officer gave additional commands to suspect to drop the knife. The suspect refused the officer’s commands and then entered another marked police cruiser in the same block. Additional officers arrived at the scene and gave the suspect commands to exit the cruiser and drop the knife.

The suspect exited the cruiser and approached a vehicle exiting a parking lot in the same block. The suspect attempted to carjack that vehicle while still armed with the knife. An officer fired their service weapon, striking the suspect. Officers began performing lifesaving measures and DC Fire and EMS was called to the scene. After all lifesaving measures failed, the suspect was pronounced dead. 

The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Surafel Zerihun, of Northwest. The suspect’s weapon was recovered on the scene. The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, pursuant to MPD policy. The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau’s Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District of Columbia. The United States Attorney’s Office will independently review the facts and evidence in the case.

From a DC Police report: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in the 5600 block of B Street, Southeast. At approximately 3:40 pm, Sixth District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a man down. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services were on the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The decedent has been identified as 18-year-old Carlos Latney, of Accokeek, MD.

RIP Maria Magdalena Ayala Guardado | 700 block Girard Street NW DC

From a DC Police report: On Sunday, December 15, 2024, at approximately 8:49 a.m., Third District officers responded to the 700 block of Girard Street NW, Washington DC, for a call from a suspect saying he had killed his significant other. An adult female was located, unconscious and not breathing, suffering trauma to her body. DC Fire and EMS responded to the location and after all lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 35-year-old Maria Magdalena Ayala Guardado of Northwest, DC.

The suspect, who remained on scene, was identified as 42-year-old Mario Miguel Banegas Deras of Northwest, DC. The suspect was charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed. The detectives’ investigation confirmed the offense was domestic in nature.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life pronounced the victim dead. The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Carmelo Green, of District Heights, MD.

Site of the slaying of Joziah Thurman | 800 block of 49th Street NE DC

From a DC Police report: On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at approximately 1:05 a.m., a stabbing victim walked into the Sixth District police station. Officers immediately aided the victim and DC Fire and EMS were summoned to the scene. After all lifesaving measures failed, the victim was pronounced dead. As a result of the detective’s investigation, the offense was determined to have occurred inside a residence in the 800 block of 49th Street NE, Washington DC. The decedent has been identified as 24-year-old Joziah Thurman, of Northeast, DC.
